FOREST, Va. — Two Washington and Lee male student-athletes have been named the Old Dominion Athlete Conference Player of the Week for the week ending February 23.
Senior Nate Plein (El Cajon, Calif./St. Augustine) was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while junior Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) was selected as the Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Plein pitched in three games this week, and only allowed one run in 9.0 innings. He nearly threw a perfect game on Saturday against Maine-Presque Isle. Against the Owls, he was perfect through six innings, before allowing a lead-off double in the top of the seventh. He still secured a one-hit shutout, with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings. It marked the first shutout of his collegiate career.
He also recorded a save in a 5-2 victory at N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday. On the season, he is 2-0 with a save in 11.2 innings. He also has struck out six batters and has a 3.86 ERA.
Competing against Division I, II and III teams at the Kent State Tune-Up, Jeong broke his own school record in the 60m. He finished sixth overall in 6.91, which bested his own previous record of 7.02. It is the top time in the ODAC this year, and is tied for the 14th-fastest time in Division III this season.
The W&L baseball team (5-2) returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Southern Virginia at 3:00 pm. The Generals’ track and field team will compete at the ODAC Championship on Sunday, starting at 10:00 am.
