FOREST, Va. – Two Washington and Lee male student-athletes have been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending January 16.
Senior Joe Wood (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) was named the Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while sophomore Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) was selected as the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Wood helped lead the Generals to a 2-0 week by totaling five goals and two assists. The midfielder tallied one goal and one assist in a season-opening 16-4 victory over Ferrum on Tuesday, and then notched a team-best four goals and one assist in a 14-6 win over Christopher Newport on Saturday.
Holt played a factor in W&L’s 9-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Friday by winning at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. He claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win over VWC’s Graham Wilson in singles and teamed with junior Taylor Shamshiri (Austin, Texas / ATA College Prep) to defeat Wilson and Kenneth Downing, 8-2.
For the season, Holt has notched a 6-2 singles record and an 8-1 doubles mark.
The 13th-ranked W&L men’s lacrosse team (2-0) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts 15th-ranked Denison for a 1:00 pm contest. The men’s tennis team (2-0), ranked 22nd in Division III, will resume action on February 25 with matches against Randolph (3:00 pm) and Lynchburg (4:00 pm).
