W&L's Boles and Holmes Named ODAC Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced that two Washington and Lee student-athletes have been selected as the conference’s Player of the Week for the week ending November 3.

Senior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) has been named the Volleyball Player of the Week, while first-year Elisabeth Holmes (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) has been selected the Swimmer of the Week.

Boles set the ODAC career kills record in leading the Washington and Lee volleyball team to a 3-1 victory at Emory & Henry on Saturday. It was the only match of the week for the Generals, and the win locked down the top seed in the conference tournament for W&L. Boles had a match-high 16 kills and a match-high 17 digs to lead the Blue and White. She also totaled three blocks and had three assists.

After setting the W&L career kills record earlier this season, Boles surpassed Heather Cook's mark of 1,656 to secure the ODAC mark as well. Boles now has 1,666 kills in her career. Boles leads the ODAC in kills (367) and is second in kills per set (3.50) this season.

The volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Shenandoah for the first-round on the ODAC Tournament. The time is yet to be determined.

Holmes picked up her second weekly award, helping the Generals to a third-place finish at the Wingate Invitational this past weekend after recording three Top 5 individual finishes.

On day one, she recorded the highest finish of the day, touching the wall in a time of 5:10.81 to take fourth-place in the 500 free. Holmes continued to her success on day two by placing second in the 1000 free, clocking in at 10:38.98, the second fastest time in school history. She also finished second in the 200 free in a time of 1:56.52, and was part of the 200 free relay squad that took home third-place (1:43.01) honors and the 400 free relay that also placed third (3:41.50).

The Generals return to the pool on Friday, hosting Sweet Briar. The meet is set to start at 6:00 pm.
