Two W&L Female Athletes Earn ODAC Player of the Week Honors

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced that two Washington and Lee female student-athletes have been selected as the Conference’s Player of the Week for the week ending January 16.

Senior Margaret Klein (North Andover, Mass. / Brooks) earned the award for women’s lacrosse, while junior Meghan Buell (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) garnered the honor for women’s tennis.

Klein helped lead the Generals to a 12-11 overtime victory over No. 16 Christopher Newport on Sunday. She led the team with four goals, including the game-winner with 18 seconds left on the clock in overtime. She also posted three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. With the win, W&L moved into the No. 20 spot in Lax Magazine’s DIII poll.

Buell posted a 2-0 record last week as the Generals defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 9-0, on Sunday. Buell knocked off Mia Proctor at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0 and teamed up with senior Chelsea Mixson (Beaufort, S.C. / Hilton Head Prep) at No. 1 doubles to defeat Proctor and Hannah Parent, 8-2.

The tennis team returns to the court this evening when it takes on Bridgewater at home. Action is set to start at 5:00 pm. The women’s lacrosse team is back in action on Wednesday when it takes on St. Mary’s (Md.) on the road at 3:00 pm.
